The best TV show you’ve never seen

“There are two kinds of people in the world: those who love The Wire and those who haven’t seen it. Yet.” Shane Richmond (Telegraph)

The third series of Baltimore-based drama The Wire is being re-run on FX (Sky channel 165) starting tonight at 10pm. I implore you to watch it.

I haven’t seen it yet, I only have Freeview, but apparently series 3 is the best television ever shot. Early reports suggest series 4 is up to scratch too.

Maybe I’ll order the boxsets. Many of my American friends are avid watchers. I think it’s supposed to be the final chapter in TV. Can’t wait until BBC or Channel Four picks it up. Say what you like about the Americans, but no-one makes TV half as good.

I would definitely recommend the box sets (especially at the moment - each series is only £18 on Amazon, down from £50!) so you can get the whole story and get to understand all of the characters. It does seem a shame that neither C4 or BBC have picked up on it, especially when you have big TV critics raving about it.

I think series 3 is my favourite overall although none of the series falls short. Series 4 is great too, focusing on the kids and the school system and shows how they come to be on the streets. Series 5 (the last one being made) is currently airing in the states, with the media being the focus, again with the escalating drug war that rus as the thread between all the series.

I just saw Isaiah Whitlock Jr on the street (Clay Davis). SUCH a nice friendly person. Apparently he’s doing a play called Unconditional pretty soon. He even gave me a discount code I guess anyone can use - LABUNCON. I just got tickets at labtheater.org/LABUNCON
