Mat: Agreed. Didn’t really know where this all started from, but as Guido et al go after dishonesty in the media and in Westminster I think they are fair game if they aren’t being wholly honest themselves.

Aye, commented on that one really early and have been getting the email follow ups with amusement. The key point is that Guido has regularly claimed a much higher readership when pushing for advertisers, couple years back he said “Guido’s blog readership now matches Private Eye’s circulation” but was basing that on unique visitors from Statcounter, at the time the Statcounter cookie reset every 6 hours, so I’d count for a chunk of that “circulation”.

Tim can be a bit obsessive at times, but it’s good that someone is watching them, I’m guessing a few advertisers paid money for more than they were actually getting.

Don’t worry about that, Tim - I not really a huge fan of Dale & Co. I read you original posts and it seems to me you are correct that they are under some confusion about what what they are reporting - visits and visitors and absolute unique visitors are surely something different?

But thought that that little back and forth that you lot had going was quite funny, although I will happily clarify that it is Guido and Dale that are indulging in the homoeroticism.

Watch out for the spin. I *proved* Dale and Staines were lying about the number oif unique visitors they get, and they are trying to divert attention away from that by *claiming* I’m a liar and demanding just the kind of pissing contest that makes people turn away in disgust.
