I don’t like Dr Who

12/08/2008

I thought as I was making myself unpopular anyway I would get everyone’s hatred towards me out in one fell swoop.  Not a bright idea this close the LDV blog awards true, but I am nothing if not stupid brave. Here goes.

Dr Who. Why?  It’s effing dreadful.  I have always avoided it due to some unconscious childhood incident that put me off but they seem to show nothing but on BBC America so have felt compelled to view a few episodes.  It’s shit.  The writing is close to bloody awful and the acting is embarrassing.  I thought David Tennant was supposed to be the finest actor of his generation.  He’s wank.  As is just about everyone in it.  Even the special effects look dodgy (one episode I saw had some ghosts in it.  I have seen more convincing spirits on Scooby-Doo.).  It breaks my heart that with the story-telling possibilities that TV has to offer, this is what the BBC chooses to spend a significant sum on.

How can this be so popular?  What am I missing?

Well yes it is b*ll*cks but in the finest traditions of Saturday night TV it is entertaining b*ll*cks. The trick is not to over analyse it, just enjoy it.

And Billie Piper remains cuter than a bunny in a box of Easter chocolates on a pink chair next to an orchard in Spring. And she combines this with managing to look filthy, which is an art I am happy to tune in for every week.

Yep, maybe that is the problem. They way people go on about it I was expecting something akin to Beckett. And it wasn’t. Unfortunately I didn’t find it entertaining either so it was a full loss for me. But each to their own.

Agree about Billy though, maybe I should just concentrate on her next time its on!

“some unconscious childhood incident that put me off”

Was it your first site of a Darlek that sent you scurrying behind the sofa? Or a scary Cyberman, perhaps?

Seriously, though. Don’t tell Alex Wilcox. It’ll just upset him :o)
