I thought as I was making myself unpopular anyway I would get everyone’s hatred towards me out in one fell swoop. Not a bright idea this close the LDV blog awards true, but I am nothing if not <strike>stupid</strike> brave. Here goes.

Dr Who. Why? It’s effing dreadful. I have always avoided it due to some unconscious childhood incident that put me off but they seem to show nothing but on BBC America so have felt compelled to view a few episodes. It’s shit. The writing is close to bloody awful and the acting is embarrassing. I thought David Tennant was supposed to be the finest actor of his generation. He’s wank. As is just about everyone in it. Even the special effects look dodgy (one episode I saw had some ghosts in it. I have seen more convincing spirits on Scooby-Doo.). It breaks my heart that with the story-telling possibilities that TV has to offer, this is what the BBC chooses to spend a significant sum on.

How can this be so popular? What am I missing?

Just watched the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics on NBC. Annoyingly, when it got to Team GB they missed their entrance by still talking about Latvia, had a quick shot of Tom Daley and then cut to Nicholas Sarkozy!
God I miss the BBC.
Still , the drummers were cool.

If you are in front of your TV tonight at about 8.10ish, you might want to switch over to Channel 4 to see Britain’s first live TV ad.

From The Guardian:

“The programmes that surround them might habitually rely on cliffhangers to maintain attention, but advert breaks are not normally known for their sense of jeopardy. That could all change tonight when Channel 4 and Honda stage the first ever live advert on British television, featuring a team of skydivers leaping out of a plane over Madrid.

During the first ad break of the reality show Come Dine With Me at 8.10pm, the 19 skydivers will have three minutes and 20 seconds to spell out the word Honda, inspired by the car manufacturer’s new advertising strapline: “Difficult is worth doing”.

Organisers were yesterday hoping the weather in Spain would hold as the team practised. “There will be no time delay and no CGI [computer-generated imagery]. If it works, people will know who it’s for. If it doesn’t, they won’t,” said Ian Armstrong, Honda’s manager of customer communications.”

Hopefully it’ll be up on youtube tomorrow so I can see how it went.

UPDATE: Video now available on dailymotion. That looks pretty cool.
